Why I love Sleep

I LOVE sleep!  I feel so good after a full night’s sleep or a nap.  Recently, I have not been sleeping well. The usual life stressors crowding in my head and all.  I was struck by how significantly my mood and general feeling of wellness is affected.  It made me wonder what it is about sleep that makes such a difference in my waking life. Most of us have noticed that we are moody and irritable when we don’t get enough sleep.  But have you ever noticed that your eating habits change too?  Yes!  Sleep and wakefulness are integral not only to hunger but also to food choices!  And it all ties back to specific events that occur in the brain when we are asleep.   And the expression, “I feel recharged” after a napping is quite accurate. No, we don’t have a hidden brain battery, but sleeping allows cell regeneration to occur which is essential to for us to function.
